We were approached by the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) to deliver a large mural to assist with the regeneration of Ancoats in Manchetser.
The HCA had been working for some time to change the perception of Ancoats and it was moving in the right direction. The aim was to attract independent and creative businesses to the space.
At the main entry point to the area there was a building that had to be knocked down, leaving a crumbling gable end wall. We were engaged to deliver a mural to set the tone for the area; something that was fresh, inviting, vibrant and would ultimately become a new land mark for the city.
We worked with Brazilian artist Mateus Bailon to deliver what was, at the time, his largest mural. The work was a huge success, satisfying the HCA, council and most importantly the local residents and businesses. We’v even seen quite a few people having their wedding photos taken in front of it.
The area has developed massively since “The Guardian of Ancoats” was painted, with a number of new shop, bar and restaurant openings.
