This is a special project for us at it was the first large scale outdoor work we were involved in. The Homes and Community Agency (now Homes England) wanted an artwork to cover an unattractive gable end wall which had been left following the demolition of an unsafe building.
It was a key strategic position for them as it was on a main entry way in to Ancoats which was an area they were actively trying to devlop.
Our role on the project was to idenfiy the artist, develop proposals and oversee the production of the work. This became a new landmark in the city and it wasn’t unusual to see tourist and even wedding photos taken in front of it.
The work was also the first by Brasilian artist Mateus Bailon who we went on to work with on a number of other projects.
